I went out with my new Fujika GW690 a few weeks back. It was my first real offense with a light meter and with slide film.

So you only get 7 shots out of one roll of 120 film, not eight as I was led to believe. If I had been aware of this and a bit more canny I would have not lost what I think was probably the best shot of the weekend. Bo matter - I live and learn. When I go up to tohoku this winter I will almsot certainly use 220 film with it's higher number of shots per roll.

The good news is that (stupid mistakes aside) I got some really good shots. I think one in particular is worthy of exhibition. I had a go at scanning some of my shots but the results were not too hot. I'll have to get them printed and see how they come out. The colours looked amazing though. I'm sold on slide film.

My pleasure - it has half inspired my next holiday. I am off driving round Touhoku this winter to try and get some good winter shots. I hope they come out as good as yours. Do you have any hints a beginner like myself might find useful?

well, i'm really a beginner myself. i got my first camera in 2004 and have been gradually learning since then. i understand that first getting into photography can be intimidating, but it all boils down to what sort of vision the photographer has. i'm still developing mine and by looking at your gallery so far, i can tell that you have a good eye. there are little tid-bits in camera function that can be learned to enhance what the photographer already sees though. it will help a little if i knew what kind of camera you use?
